I have left New York for Miami Beach, next stop the world! With a passion for new people, new places, food and everything in between I want to document my new life as an explorer both in my backyard and abroad. While rating them with my sarcastic humor and quick wit, I hope you will come along and enjoy this journey with me…

Thirsty Thursday

Ahhh my favorite day of the week (besides Friday, Saturday and Sunday)! This week’s feature bar is your favorite and mine…that’s right…the one and only Martell’s Tiki Bar in Point Pleasant, New Jersey! If you’re from the tri-state area you are probably familiar with their famous fresh-squeezed OJ drinks (available with vodka, rum or tequila…I prefer the vodka of course). And don’t forget the raw bar shots! The combination of vodka, cocktail sauce, horseradish and an oyster, clam or shrimp (the choice is yours) might sound risky, even borderline repulsive but they are delicious and you’ll thank me later.

NOTE: Stick to the oysters and the clams as the shrimp tend to be tricky when attempting to consume them in a shot-like fashion.

If you’re not from NY, NJ, CT (no one really cares about CT, but I’ve kept them in to be polite) or you’ve just never experienced this amazing Jersey Shore hot spot, (including but not limited to overly-tanned juice heads, terrible tattoos and some of the best people watching money can buy) then run there this summer and ENJOY!

FUN-FACT: The Tipsy Traveler is a former employee and proud customer of this fine establishment!! Love to all the Martell’s staff and guests ;)

Every year me and my fabulous, theme-party loving friends head out to Hoboken, New Jersey for their annual Hoboken St. Patrick’s Day Parade. For those of you who are unaware of this spectacular holiday, the town of Hoboken (located right outside Manhattan), picks a Saturday in early March for their own St. Patrick’s Day celebration. What used to be a quiet neighborhood parade has turned into one of the biggest drinking debacles of the year. Bringing in thousands of “young professionals” from the surrounding boroughs, the festivities start VERY early in the morning. Lines of thirsty people are wrapped around the bars by 9 AM and the trip from Manhattan to Hoboken via the PATH train is an experience in itself. With green beer, lots of vodka (of course) and a few hundred of my closest friends, I can’t wait to see what this year has in store!! If your feeling brave I encourage you to join in the fun, otherwise stay tuned for the follow up of HOBOKEN ST. PATTY’S DEBACLE 2011!!!
